Two Musicians Get Inventive During the Pandemic with Dan Turkos and Gail Hernandez
Dan Turkos.jpg

Today, I have two guests: Dan Turkos and Gail Hernandez Rosa, two special young musicians who recently formed the core of a group called Beneath A Tree - Baroque to Folk.

This group is unique and inspiring because of the inventiveness with which these musicians mix and weave the classical and folk voices in their interpretations. They're about to release a groundbreaking recording called “My Cup of Tea.”

In this episode, we talked at length about:

  • Gail’s experiences as a musician traveling in different countries.

  • How Dan and Gail created a fundraising project for the recording of their album in the midst of the pandemic.

  • The concept of their album and how it evolved.

  • The perks and challenges of working together as a couple.

  • The importance of having individual identities.

  • Their advice to young students who want to become a musician.

  • Our favorite musicians like Bach, Mozart, and Willie Nelson and how their music makes us feel.

  • Their views on improvisation and its relation to being creative.

Get to know more about Dan Turkos and Gail Hernandez Rosa, their music and their life in the full Bowing to Elephants Podcast episode which you can listen to here.

Celebrating the Bowing to Elephants Podcast Launch
brightened podcast photo.jpg

The Bowing to Elephants has launched and I am so excited, honored and grateful! To every listener who supported the first three episodes, I thank you for your support, and community. I look forward to the opportunity to provide you all with stories from new guests, while exploring new walks of life and regions of the world.

We have so much more to discuss and reflect on, in speaking with hundreds of authors, entrepreneurs, and cultural aficionados. The Bowing to Elephants podcast is a celebration of life and people, and I couldn’t be more delighted with where we are and the direction we’ll soon be heading.

I’d like to give a great big shout out and sincere thanks to my first three guests, Brooke Warner, Mark Bittner, and Christine Hemp for being a part of this! I am incredibly grateful to have had the chance to sit down with these amazing people to discuss their work, lives, and philosophies, and it’s already been so rewarding to see the different perspectives and opinions of those from different walks of life. You’ll see what I mean after you hear our conversations for yourselves.

My hope is that this podcast brings community together, invites us into a shared common strength and interest and curiosity for our lives, and that we continue to watch, learn and grow together. It’s critically important to learn from the experiences of others, and become more in tune with the majesty and vast spaces of the world, and of ourselves, no matter which continent or region you find yourself in.

I’d like to close out this message by thanking readers, listeners, kindred spirits and curious minds who turned into the debut episode on Tuesday June 22nd and invite you all to tune into future installments of the Bowing to Elephants podcast. In the coming episodes we’ll converse with experts who are, like me, committed to helping you live a more mindful, meaningful life.

I invite you to join in on these conversations, in times of both trouble and peace, and that you find your own wisdom in the words imparted by our wonderful guests.

My eternal thanks and deepest gratitude to you all!

Will You Join Me In Conversations With Masters?
Promo 7.jpg

Hello friends! I’m very excited as I invite you to join me in a conversation with someone I find really fascinating. In fact, it’s not just one person, it’s many people.

Over the last few months, I’ve been working diligently to bring these conversations to you.

I’ve wanted to do this so that you can have some of the same experiences I had in writing my internationally best selling book, Bowing to Elephants, Tales of A Travel Junkie.

Since I published my book, I’ve longed to create a community that will unite us and shine a thoughtful light on all the beautiful ways we can continue to learn about ourselves and each other.  It’s been such a privilege to do this, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this with you.

The experiences I’ve had over the years have led me to continue being curious, and in having many conversations with these masters, thinkers, artists and truth seekers, a podcast has been born.

“The Bowing to Elephants Podcast” is a place for us to gather, connect and reflect on how we humans craft our unique life paths, and discuss the myriad of ways we can make a difference in the world. It is a place to reflect on and honor all the diverse ways we humans create our own lives.

Join me as I engage in intriguing, thoughtful conversations with my guests, who each have pearls of wisdom to offer and share.

  • One of my guests is a strong voice in the world of publishing, with her She Writes Press being named “Best Independent Publisher of 2019.”  She’s also a writer, teacher, and feminist.

  • One of my esteemed guests spent over a decade living on the streets of San Francisco as a spiritual seeker, ultimately befriending a flock of wild parrots, and whose story is now a revered documentary called “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill.”

  • Another guest of mine is a renowned poet from Washington state whose poetry was sent into space, and whose life was salvaged through the wisdom of her white Arabian horse, Buddy.

Get to know a whole lot of people doing things with their lives, get inside the minds and hearts of people who are bringing their gifts, ideas, and messages into the world.

You’ll be surprised, and you’ll find out many things you didn’t yet know about people, human nature and the wonderful resilience of the creative spark that lives in everybody. As we reveal our stories in conversation, we begin to gain a better understanding of ourselves, only to find that we are all connected in more ways than we might be able to see at first glance.

Join this community of thinkers, artists, and truth tellers by tuning in on Tuesday, June 22nd. I am excited to have you as a part of the beautiful community that we have created. I’ll send an email with details that morning.

My thanks and appreciation,

Mag
